This past week, September 4-8, was Norris’ Homecoming Week: a week full of celebrations, dress-up days and competitions. Classes participated in different activities to earn points toward winning Homecoming — such as pickleball, a dance-off, a fight song singing competition and more.

“Dressing up for Homecoming week is super fun,” sophomore Clem Wittmann said.

“You get the opportunity to wear fun clothes and try styles that are different from what you would wear on a normal day.”

The overall theme of Homecoming was “Fandoms.” Seniors had “Stranger Things,” juniors had “Jurassic Park,” sophomores had “Star Wars” and freshmen had “Disney.”

Each class decorated their hallway according to their theme. Elementary and intermediate students visited the high school to vote for their favorite hallway.

“The sophomores did a really great job on their dance-off,” sophomore Mitchell Severson said. “It was very interesting, and it was the only that had a creative story to it. This year’s was fun.”

Sophomores took the win for the dance-off competition. Their dance featured a lightsaber fight between the “Star Wars” characters Darth Maul and Yoda, and had the audience roaring in laughter. Juniors took second place, and their dance included gorillas and inflatable dinosaurs. Seniors took third and freshmen were last.

“Honestly, the class of 2024 has won for two years in a row,” senior Pete Wasser said. “And it feels pretty good to continue the tradition.”

Throughout the week, the seniors truly showed their Titan Pride the best as they took the overall win for Homecoming. Seniors won all but one of the dress-up days, the singing competition, and best hallway.

“Winning the dress-up contest started off as a joke,” Wittmann said. “But I’m really thankful for all my friends who played along and helped it become a reality.”

Every day was a new dress-up theme. Tuesday was Barbie and Ken, Wednesday was Mathlete vs Athlete, Thursday was Hallway Day and Friday was Titan Spirit. Wittmann won best dressed student, and the best dressed staff members were Mr. Zac Barton and Mrs. Janelle Coady.

“The football game is definitely the best part about Homecoming,” junior Jordan Tilford said. “Being in the student section is such an amazing experience.”

The week ended with a Titan win against Lexington. After the football game, Homecoming royalty was announced. Seniors Garret Dorn and Clare Macklin won king and queen. Other representatives included seniors Eli Holt and Izzy Schmidt, juniors Cole Bare and Ashley Gruber, sophomores Eli Starner and Izedora Tidball and freshmen Evan Greenfield and Lila Bare. After the crowning ceremony, the Norris community watched a firework show to celebrate the Homecoming victory.
