The University Program Council (UPC) announced JPEGMafia as the artist for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s spring concert on 106.3 KFRX and Instagram Live. JPEGMafia will perform on April 30 in front of the Lied Center at 12th and R.
UPC hosts a concert every year for UNL students. Last year, UPC shifted the concert from homecoming week to the spring. In previous years UPC has brought in NLE Choppa, Duckwrth and Yung Gravy.
UPC hinted to this year’s artist on their Instagram with a custom Wordle prompt. When solved the word was “peggy.”
JPEGMafia, also known as Peggy, is a rapper, songwriter and producer from Baltimore, Maryland. He originally released mixtapes under the name Devon Hendryx while serving in the United States Air Force. Once he moved to Baltimore, he started releasing mixtapes under JPEGMafia.
He released his first studio album, “Black Ben Carson,” in 2016. His second and third albums were met with critical acclaim and billboard charting, which got him signed to Republic Records for the release of his fourth album.
JPEGMafia is also a producer. Most notably, he produced tracks on Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign's album “Vultures 1.”
On Feb. 3, JPEGMafia released a deluxe edition of his most recent album: “I Lay Down My Life for You: Director's Cut.” JPEGMafia is currently on tour in New Zealand and Australia for his biggest headliner tour with the album.
Tickets are free for all UNL students. The show will start at 7 p.m. with an opening performance from Pearl Parade, the winner of Battle of the Bands at UNL Homecoming.
